The word triquetra originally meant triangle, but has come to more specifically refer to the three cornered celtic knot that these earrings depict. The shape is similar to a viking symbol that was related to odin called the valknut which is also found on runic stones in norse countries, in the same way that the triquetra is carved in countries that were populated by celtic people.
